Description

A Box set of 99 collector editions of Thai banknote book in the reign of King Rama IX was the most complete book, also special 2 banknotes of  rare series 9th – denomination of 1 Bath, types 1st and 4th. Both the banknotes and the commemorative bank note on all types, all prices, all series and all signatures of the Governor of the Bank of Thailand and all Minister of Finance. All photos were private collections of the founder of MOCA Bangkok. 

Thai banknote we use today, has a history of development over a hundred years. The first paper on the land of Siam, we called “Mai” first appeared in 1853,  which corresponds to the reign of King Mongkut. After that, it was released “Att Kradat” during the reign of King Rama V, then “Bat Thanakarn” and continued development until the final “banknote” that we all know best. The banknote is not just a printed paper for the price. But their were relevanted to Thai history, cultural, political and developing of art design. The value of banknote is not just the value on the banknote. But there were a memoirs of Siamese.

Sanchai Wongsarawanee

Sanchai Wongsarawanee was born in Bangkok in 1958, studied at Samsen Wittayalai School and Thammasat University. Serve as an investigation officer at Office of the Narcotics Control Board. Finally, retired as the museum expert at Bank of Thailand in 2018. He is interested in money. Both coins and banknotes, including history and culture. In addition to the book “Thai banknote of King Rama IV – Rama VIII” written with Sumaivadee Mekasut. There are also works for writing, such as Devavesm Palace and 100 years of Bang Khun Phrom Palace. He also organized temporary exhibitions, such as Centenary of Thai Banknotes and Banknotes During the Reign of King Rama IX on the Occasion of 7th Cycle Birthday Anniversary. As well as creating currency permanent exhibitions both at the Bank of Thailand Museum in Bang Khun Phrom Palace (2006-2017) and Bank of Thailand Learning Center.

Sumaivadee Mekasut

Sumaivadee is a native of Ratchaburi, born in late 1963. Her grandfather used to be a goldsmith at the F. Grahlert & Co.,Jewellers. This German department store is a royal gold shop during the reign of King Rama V. In addition, her grandfather is also a famous Thai traditional medicine doctor in Ratchaburi. Resulting in the love of history and art, she then graduated from Silpakorn University and a master’s degree at Thammasat University. In the same branch is Library and information science (LIS). Sumaivadee specializes in librarian, archives, research and writing. She has works for writing articles and books such as 100 years of Bang Khun Phrom Palace. Masterpieces in the Bank of Thailand Museum, Thai banknotes during World War II, etc. Currently, Sumaivadee is also working on antiques, museums, lectures and research for public dissemination.
