Part in ‘Matter of the Mind Series’, it is an abstract art work with the intention of reducing things until only essence is left. The artist created two-dimensional flat objects— leaving the depth (the third dimension) out— in order to present ‘the truth of the painting’. The concept of ‘reduction’ is like to reduce defilements and cravings in terms of Buddhist philosophy.
In visual arts, when stories or meanings are cut out, or shapes of objects are reduced, only visual elements are left. When the visual elements are minimally reduced, only ‘dots’— the smallest units—are left. In this series, dots are transformed into shapes, stories, meanings, as well as messages and their own language in order to aim to reach the state of mind which is less, simple, ordinary, pure, and serene.
