Inspired by the concept of the ‘death’ of human beings, a coffin— where spirits of animals are dwelling in and clinging to— was created. It reflects fundamental nature of human beings whose the death is undesirable. Therefore, some beliefs are set up in order to deceive themselves. Rites believed to postpone the death are performed such as a rite to prolong the life. In Buddhism, preparing an own coffin for oneself is a strategy to contemplate the death so that the death is viewed as a common matter. A worry about physical deterioration is then relieved.
