After Mara’s unsuccessful assault on the enlightenment of Lord Buddha, his daughters also failed to seduce him because of his accumulated virtues. This recalls us that we are dominated by the daughters’ power— Raga (lust), Tanha (craving), and Arati (aversion). When we are enlightened, we realize and accept the Four Noble Truth— the truth of suffering, the truth of the origin of suffering, the truth of the cessation of suffering, and the truth of the path to cessation of suffering.
